You're right. They shot themselves in the foot again with their World Currents prophecies and the violence in New Orleans. I remember a World Currents in '92 with prophecies about things soon to happen in Russia, how Lebed was going to take over and a lot of other stuff about the anti-Christ. Lebed only stayed in the news for a few months. I bet they don't reproduce that one anymore. They sanitize things regularly don't they? Or they say it's been fulfilled behind the scenes.
I remember when I was a member that the prophecy deal was how "God had revealed his secrets to his servants the prophets(us)." This fueled the idea of being special, called to know things that the world and other Christians don't know. That's not only delusional but it's pride as much as Berg pretended not to be proud.
IMO, every cult has their own handle on how they do something like this with their membership. To varying degrees it seems that a lot of Churches make themselves into cults in this way, as well as the Mullahs, and etc.
