I remember running into Stephen Schaf after Zerby had published the Who Said They're Dead letters and letters similar, where she goes on and on about how successful the books she planned to publish were going to be, and in some follow up GNs she talked about how Family members were going to be getting messages from beyond which were going to influence world leaders, and this was to be an important ministry, and we were going to be really important and blah blah blah.
Well, I was on a trip back to W. Europe from Russia and I was staying with some ex members who like helping traveling Fam. members. Stephen S. and his wife were staying nearby in a camper, they were fund raising to go to Africa. He came over to see us, and I remember this guy as he slowly walked into the kitchen, (I'll never forget this), he sat down without saying a word, as if still in the prophet's trance, with that far away wise look in his eyes, he said something like, "I was praying this afternoon, and it started with 'Sese Seko, I'm Mobuto, Mobutu Sese Seko..." Anyway he went on to tell us about the message he's just received from the former African dictator of Zaire who had recently died. Stephen Schaf was convinced he'd been called to give this prophecy to the leaders of the African country where they were headed. I remember thinking: "Wow, this guy's gone over the edge." Instead I should have listened to my conscience, which I was always thinking of as doubts--still a cult zombie, and realized that not only Stephen S. was over the edge but Zerby and her whole crew were beyond tilt as well. I would have left the madness then and not 3 1/2 years later.
