I'm really blessed to be able to have 4 hives this year (Actually got 22 gallons this season!). The bees are awesome! I'm watching them now dragging out the drones and killing them. Because they are so useless during winter, why feed 'em? Ya know, the drones can't sting either. The bees actually seem quite merciless. The ones born in Spring/Summer will only live about six weeks or so, as they virtually work themselves to death. The ones born in the fall will live all thru winter 'cause all they really do is kinda vibrate and buzz to bunch up and keep the nucleus around the Queen warm tru-out the winter. It's really neat to be able to share the honey also. And besides, it's pretty well proven that the stings (Only from the honey bee, not wasps, etc.) are very theraputic for arthritis. And after 22 yrs. of basket weaving, my hands can use all the help they can get. Washing dishes helps, too--it's the best way to soak the hands. And man, do folks freak out when they see that I actually enjoy doin' their dishes!! When God works His way, it seems so much like my baskets; "ALL things work together for good..." Thanx a lot for this "Site" and all the postings, helps my day a whole lot!
