The movie was better than the books

I sort of endured the writing style of the books, but the movie with the special effects really stands completely on its own, and subtle stuff came across in the movie that added to its "depth" or "darkness" if you will. For e.g. look at the menacing appearance of the main centaur general, who's a "good guy". He looks like Ghengis Khan. He's a major character and is downright threatening in appearance, yet he didn't even exist as a character in the books. I won't say more for those who haven't seen the movie.

I'd also say people can take away whatever they want from the movie. Just on the entertainment value alone with no probing for deeper meaning, it was a fun film ... for kids at least. It reminded me of Harry Potter as far as its level of presentation and the crowd it was aimed at.
