A co-worker stumbled across this website. As measurement methodology geeks, we got quite a chuckle out of it. The substance abuse index went down because of an 11% decline in adolescent drug abuse in the US. OK...what about the dramatic rise in adult methamphetamine abuse? Ummm...any chance drug abuse & gang activity is on the rise in the former USSR?
"The False Prophet" category is also interesting. "The departure of the pope obviously increases the chance for the next pope to be the false prophet." Obviously? Gosh, aren't there any false prophets in the protestant and reformed churches, like maybe Warren Jeffs? Nah, only a Catholic can be THE false prophet.
No mention of genocide in Sudan. That must not be a event of prophetic importance, such as Hurricane Katrina, which loaded on 4 or 5 categories in the index.
Hmmm....could this index have an ethnocentric bias?
