"Nuts and not home" is a crude way to put it.

Many of Joel's posts at NDN show characteristics of a person with a psychotic disorder. From my observations, it's apparent Joel has been told he has a brain disease of this nature, but he does not accept this diagnosis as "the truth." Lack of insight, disordered thoughts, ideas of reference, incoherance, and extreme religious preoccupation are just a few symptoms typical of schizophrenia, the most pervasive of the psychotic disorders. Symptoms can spontaneously go into remission for periods of time without treatment. Very serious brain diseases like this frequently are hereditary. Joel's son reportedly had a psychotic disorder and committed suicide in an extremely gruesome way.

I mention these things because Joel does not reason things out in a logical manner, and OT2's post is likely to provoke a paranoid, defensive reaction if Joel actually reads it.

I should add this: Brain diseases in no way affect a person's capacity to receive the grace of salvation. We do not know the state of Joel's soul in the sight of God and cannot pass judgement on his spiritual condition based on what he writes.
