Unlike fundamentalists who live in a black and white world of absolute certainty, I find greater value in uncertainty and doubt thanks to my cult experience. On any issue I like to consider all perspectives, in fact, I think it is necessary for a fuller understanding. I'm not surprised that Erhman has many critics, especially amongst bible literalists who believe every word is the divinely "breathed" infallible word of God. For them anything that is critical of their perspective is blasphemous and a direct attack on their faith, so I expect some will show up here to denounce Erhman (and maybe me). After all, if he is correct where does that leave them? So it is in their interest (and nature) to attack him and his work. I understand that, but still, the smugness with which they often express their certainty is what really irks me, as it is often an expression of bigotry.
