My take on this is that she wasn't "rebuking the tenents [tenets] of Islam" as much as she was rebuking the politics of religious leaders who, having gained political power, seek to keep their followers locked into medieval subjugation through manipulation of holy scriptures. (sound familiar?)

Personally, I don't think Christians (speaking generally, not to anyone here specifically) should be so quick to condemn the backwardness of certain Islamic states. In the U.S. and other similar countries it was not too many years ago that woman, blacks and Indians were enfranchised. Prior to that they were second class citizens without many of the rights enjoyed by white male citizens. Some would argue they are still second class. And I don't have to start listing all of the atrocities past and present, including genocide, committed by Christian nations and their Christian leaders and soldiers.

I don't think anyone religion has a monopoly on evil doing, or perhaps more accurately, a monopoly on evil doers in their midst.
