I'm working on doing exactly what you've suggested. The trust issue is important, and quite frankly, it goes both ways. Maybe I don't trust people (sometimes) to understand that I'm just talking about an idea, and not about who I am or what I might actually believe in my heart of hearts on a given topic. I used to teach university classes, and I'm quite used to entertaining all sorts of ideas and viewpoints without necessarily revealing my own opinion, which is--after all--just another opinion about something that is usually quite complex and multifaceted.
