I did a lot of thinking about the double-minded-person-is-unstable thing when I was posting my comments to you. Also, let your "yay be yay and nay be nay."

It comes down to context. As I explained to Zither, I used to teach classes on various social welfare issues. Very tough, complex social & personal issues don't have a single right way of defining the problem or arriving at solutions, although some solutions are probably better in the long run than others because the definition of the problem is more informed by empirical data as well as a more humane & compassionate set of values.

Everything depends on your personal values and beliefs about the nature of social reality. These are not things I'm in a position to change. I can only hope to make you aware of how these things are influencing the way you define a problem and arrive at a solution.

Both social and personal change is basically a process of exchanging one set of problems for a different set of problems. Only you can decide what set of problems you're willing & able deal with.

So there is a single-mindedness in my madness.
