It's been some years now since I rejected my religious faith and Christian perspective so I'm having difficulty wrapping my head around all this controversy over the Da Vinci Code. I haven't read it yet, and the movie's not out yet, but from all I've read about it, it seems to me it is simply a work of fiction. Don't people understand the basic concept that a work of fiction by definition describes imaginary events? Is it really an attack on the Christian faith? Is any depiction of Jesus that is outside of the officially recognized gospel narratives necessarily blasphemous?

I guess I'm gonna have to read the book to see what all the fuss is about, but I'm not willing to pay for it or the movie so I'll have to wait for my library to bring it in.
