There is no shred of evidence that it was a literal event as described in Genesis. It is purely a matter of unprovable belief and faith.

Speaking of faith, has anyone been watching the excellent PBS program "On Faith and Reason" with Bill Moyers? So far the two opening episodes have consisted of one on one conversations with Moyers. The first was a fascinating full hour with Salman Rushdie. The second hour was split between Mary Gordon and Colin McGinn. Some very provacative thinking going on there.
