I can agree with you about much of the 'Christianity' we know here in the west being a virus/trojan horse -- but only on the level of cultural clutter and junk. The heart of Christianity, the Bible and the fact that Christians are supposed to gather together is true. The rest of the cultural stuff piled on top of it can be either true or false or simply culture.
But I really think God looks at the hearts of individual believers. Even a western Christian who spends a little too much time at the trough of materialism ("the abundant life") might nevertheless be compassionate and sincere in most other areas. In fact, maybe he's only slightly afflicted with materialism because of being immersed in western cuture.
