I agree. A lot of disagreement with Christian churches is simply the cultural values that have become mixed with the expression of faith. No matter where in the world Christians live, the basic, simple faith has also absorbed that area's particular political/social viewpoint.
I don't think most people, even athiests, would side with the repressive Chinese communist authorities (trying to suppress religion) against the 70,000,000 humble little peasants tilling their land who have found hope and peace in the Christian faith. It's hard to criticize Chinese Christians who are being jailed and tortured and socially repressed as a result of their faith.
