Chinese American:

I did a VERY quick Google search, and at http://www2.hu-berlin.de/sexology/IES/china.html#0, I found where “ToC” had copied out a section, in its entirety, in the essay's section 2A, "Religious and Ethnic Factors Affecting Sexuality, and Source and Character of Religious Values"--not real scholarly.

Yes, religious prostitution has a history the world over, and it did not begin, nor will it end, with TF. We understand that. ToC merely added, I might say, rather childishly, a vulgar phrase about which the inferences you drew were correct.

Your response showed justifiable irritation and indignation, and I applaud your honest and intelligent response.

Quite a few of us who post here regularly are very interested in what you said, in writing,
“…what more likely influenced or inspired Berg”. Perhaps you would like to contribute along those lines?

That would be a more worthy topic for Journeys, IMHO; much more worthy of reading than a repeated curse word and a stolen text.

I love Asian people, and do appreciate their diversity, among so many nations, and as multi-generation immigrants to the US. My wife and I frequently host Chinese University students at our home, and both my Mom and my step-Dad went to mainland China on a professorial exchange program, living at three different Universities in mainland China, over a six-month period.

One of my three brothers-in-law is of Hispanic descent, and my niece and nephew really look it, but don’t speak a WORD of Spanish—they’ve told me some stories about amazing ignorance towards their persons, as well.

I got treated crappily and stereotypically as an older returning adult at University as well. Some I rebuffed, and some I ignored; you've really got to pick your battles.

Some ignorance you just can’t get away from; it seems—be patient.

Sincerely,
OT2 (OldtimerToo)
