I also liked The Mission for the reason you've stated. I have known people of faith who were warriors by nature and/or vocation, and I know that they see this as a sacred calling, much like the knights of the middle ages or even, perhaps, like the Roman soldiers who secretly embraced Christianity and used their power & skills to protect the catacomb church. There have always been soldiers at the foot of the cross who look at the innocent victim of temporal power and declare, Surely, you are the Son of God!
What I also liked about The Mission is that for once it showed religious Catholics in a favorable light. And Jesuits--widely disparaged as the stormtroopers for the AC Pope--what an unlikely group of men to characterize as sacrificial servants of the poor Christ!
