Parents who forgive the person who murdered their child always amaze me. I'd like to think that I would do the same thing, but I can't say with certainty that I would. I'd try--I just can't say I'd be successful. Putting someone in prison for life may be worse punishment than the death penalty anyway. I've never really understood people who think a "life for a life" will make them feel better about their loss.
I think carrying a grudge and a lot of anger and desire for revenge around inside the mind & body is not good for my health. So, I'm inclined to want to forgive others and refrain from retaliation out of self interest. Whenever I've struck back against someone who hurt me, I've regretted it and felt like I paid a very heavy price for the bitter taste of revenge.
