Salvation is important because that's how the restoration of God's plan is accomplished. The purpose of the "millennium" (the period in between the First and Second Comings), in the view I've described, is that THROUGH salvation and the influence of the Gospel, "the kingdoms of this world...become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ".
The verses we always saw as talking about "the rapture" (1 Thes. 4, etc.), I see as taking place at THE END, as part of the resurrection, when Jesus wraps up history and hands the completed kingdom over to God (1 Co. 15:24-28).
