I've been accused of being a member of the ethics police on occasion. I think that any religious person who takes him or herself too seriously is fair game. Truly pious people have enough humility to laugh at themselves, and the point of Opus Dei, as I understand it, is to help Catholic Christians live devout, pious lives in the world. Nothing wrong with that in my ethics books.

BTW, "PC the RC" stands for Politically Correct, the Recovering Catholic. I'm not really a recovering catholic, as I have no desire to recover what I lost when I dis-affiliated myself from the RC Church. I still have a great deal of respect for Catholic Christians, who do know quite a lot about discipleship and what Jesus really taught as a way of life for his followers.

It's probably more accurate to call myself a recovering Christian. My willingness to publically identify myself Christian took its biggest hit from the fusion of conservative, evangelical Christianity with right-wing politics during the early 1990s. The priest pedophile scandal didn't help things, either. Nowdays, my concern with issues of poverty or respect for life are the domain of partisan politics. I always thought these concerns came from my vows to follow Jesus Christ and desire to live according to the Gospel teachings.
