It really freaked me out, no kidding. They have this yearly event where they pray to one of their gods for help and if they get what they wanted, they have to make a pilgrimage up this mountain carrying a kavadi. Know what a kavadi is? It's a ceremonial platform that they carry somehow and usually strap them on with fish hooks and other types of hooks thrust through their tongue, sides, chest, etc., etc. They will also just add skewers here and there for more devotion, stuck through their flesh, can you imagine? Even children. It was one of the creepiest things I've ever seen. They get themselves in a hypnotic trance first by dancing around in circles and chanting for several hours, then once they are in that state, someone starts putting the fish hooks in their flesh.
I think this is really bizarre and takes the cake, along with some of those other heathen practices Donny was mentioning.
I also think that praying for hours and hours and chanting things to "god" is also some sort of way of hypnotizing the members and makes them numb or mindless. That's why I stay away from religion in all forms, doesn't mean I don't believe in God or Jesus, I just don't believe in religion and think most of our pastors are just as mixed up as berg was. In all of our learning, have we really learned anything? My hubby was reading something someone said about all these things in the world happen so that man will know how much he needs God. You know, that doesn't make any sense. Then this will just keep on going on forever, because as soon as one generation is dead and gone, there's a new crop of people to have to go through all that learning crap again. Is God planning on doing this forever until he has enough tortured souls to keep him company for eternity??? What? I'm still waiting for a good answer to that one. I understand where Porcelein is coming from.
