I think part of what drove Berg to have such "zeal" for witnessing was how badly his conscience bothered him about molesting both his daughters & cheating on his wife every chance he got by sleeping with prostitutes while out selling Fred Jordan's gospel TV show. He spent money on whores that his family needed for clothes & food.

Since he wasn't planning on repenting he covered his sins with the false balm of "good works," i.e. zealous witnessing. And I think the thing that proves his motives were all wrong about it was how he then turned around so self-righteously and condemned other Christians for not doing the same. And when the churches accused the Family of child abuse, what was Berg's defense? "They're just jealous of us for our success at witnessing."

He may have had a bit of sincerity mixed in but it was mostly just a smoke-screen. The ones who did the actual sincere witnessing were street-level Family members.
