I have observed the same thing, and not only about Christianity. I was talking about a certain type of vehicles the other day and the difficulty one had to enter in some cases. There were many indications that my comments were based on my particular observation of one particular type of vehicles. I was with people of the automobile industry and a few of them took issue. After the fact, I learned that they had good money reasons to feel threatened. In the case of religion, or politics, or anything where there is emotional investment, some people have issues that feel comments expose and so they respond defensively.
Maybe everybody do that all the time in certain circles but I don't believe it is true everywhere and for everybody. I think that most of the time, the type of positive or negative reaction says more about the person reacting than about the topic being discussed.
I consider myself a Christian and I welcome posts that encourage me to think outside the box because I like to examine my Christians beliefs. Not everybody is like me. Obviously, not everybody has the same type of Christianity I have, and therefore Christianity is not the same for everybody.
