I used to have a paper that a sociology professor who used to be a Baptist minister had given me. Somehow I've lost it. I'll check with the teacher and see if I can dig it up again. It had something to do with how in the culture of the day widows had to marry their brother-in-law since there was no welfare system then and there was no way for them to be taken care of. This was the way of taking care of widows. Onan did not want to take care of this widow and that is why he spilt his seed so he wouldn't be responsible for her. It was his disobedience that God was angry at, not his supposedly practicing birth control. That had nothing to do with God's anger.
