cult thinking

After leaving TF, it was not a far stretch to seek the answer in something else that was also a closed system- familiar.
The perversions that became cornerstone in TF over time were markers for what the root or nature of the entire beast was-regarding that specific destructive cult. But getting out of the cult, I've had to be extra wary of getting drawn into anything that demands the same resignation of my own will to any supposed great ideal. In some ways, this vigilance has kept me from connecting with others in society at large, in ways that are healthy.
I'm glad that "Journeys" is here because there isn't a default religion or spirituality that is named as "the" correct way to view things. I'd love to hear how others, after leaving
TF, have encountered challenges with being drawn to anything that felt familiar as far as having a specific set of beliefs that are defined and stepping outside of the ways of thinking that are "acceptable" can result in shunning or being outside of things. I realize that this sort of system is not just religious. Sometimes it's behavioral, like "The Forum" or maybe even a church that is mainstream but you have to sacrifice something true to yourself in order to truly belong.
