Seems to me the Pope needs a red herring to take the attention off of the horrible human rights abuse perpetrated on children by clergy as well as the institutional protection provided to such clergy.
I live in a secular society, and I don't feel persecuted by gay marriage or abortion. I do feel saddened by abortion. I don't think gay marriage weakens the institution of marriage. Heterosexuals have done to weaken the "sanctity" of marriage than homosexuals could ever hope to. In any event, I don't want or need society to make laws that will take away my freedom to chose moral behavior over what I view as immoral according to my faith & personal convictions.
My point being: Pope B should put his energy into keeping his own side of the street clean. He's foolish to point out the mess on the other guy's side when there are piles of horse manure laying around all over Catholic side.
