I think that FH's response was largely a nonresponse too. I had trouble understanding the context and relevance of what he wrote in response to the issues raised.

When someone says they are very offended about what you've just said, your response can usually be boiled down to one of these options (simplified, of course):

  1. You revoke the insult by taking back what you said ("I was wrong")
  2. You stand firm that what you said still applies
  3. You explain that wasn't what you meant ("this is clearly a misunderstanding")
  4. You refuse to acknowledge or deal with the issue raised
Additionally, you can a) place the responsibility of the offense on the offended person ("your own fault for getting offended") and/or b) assume responsibility for offending the person.

After a lot of beating around the bush, FH's response seems to resemble combination 4b) and combination 2b). I'm not one bit surprised Born Identity continues to be offended.
