I like your take on the Bible--it's very much like my own. Many, if not most, Bible stories are about people struggling to find God in the midst of their messy, ignorant human condition. There's no reason to mistake the actions of ignorant humanity for God's will.

That seems to be a lot like my own story. Although I have often sinned and done some incredibly stupid, hurtful things, God has always been active in my life and slowly bringing me home--despite the twists, turns and bumps in the road. (And there have been many!) I can only see God's hidden & mysterious presence in my personal history by looking back on those times when He seemed absent or incomprehensible. At various times when I was lost or had strayed far afield, I couldn't have told you what God was doing.

That is, I think, what much of the Bible is about--people of faith reflecting on their collective and individual history and recognizing God's presence in the midst of the mess.
