I agree that people believe what they need to believe. I need to believe in a power greater than myself in order not to get stuck inside my head with no way out. Whether or not my higher power is the same as the god of the Bible, I can't say. I've pretty much rejected the God of my youth as an abusive SOB. I'm not God and nether is he.
I don't know if I believe in a transcendent, supernatural diety, but I am open to an immanent, all-pervasive presence of something mysterious and loving. It gives me what I need to stay sane.
