It will be interesting to see what happens when the media starts to make a more critical appraisal of Obama's performance as chief executive. No human being could possibly live up to the expectations that have been projected onto this man, in some part because the media have been so soft on him.

Something I'll be watching closely is how Obama handles Nancy Pelosi and the "Fairness Doctrine". I no fan of right-wing windbags like Rush Limbaugh, or, for that matter, left-wing windbags like Al Franken. Regardless, I don't want government censorship. I'm perfectly capable of changing the channel myself. Screw the Big Brother.

I do worry about the effects of inflammatory speech on people, but I think the communications market is capable of self regulating. From what I've read of history, prior generations of citizens and candidates engaged in much more violent rhetoric than what we hear today. Of course, back in those days there wasn't a mass media. But, there wasn't the internet, either, which I believe has the power to mediate the biases and distortions found in mainstream, commercial media.
