My take is that extremism in any religion is sick and oppressive. I don't see the extremism in Islam being any more or less damaging to women and children than the extremism in Christianity. I would say that I don't see Christianity or Islam being represented by extremists. I've know Islamist couples that were wonderful people who were not oppressive or abusive. So I don't see religion as being the issue as much as whatever is lacking in people that causes them to become destructive in their "faith".
Yes, there are powerful women in the Tea Party. But I still see their politics as oppressive to women. That's just my view. The scenario you are describing with the stoning is more extremist Islam. I would not want to live in Saudi Arabia, that is for sure. But I also wouldn't want to live in Salt Lake City Utah.
