We survived a society that was "Christian" by religious designation. The Spanish Inqusition was spearheaded by "Christian" religion. Atrocities are not limited to one religion or the other but unfortunately, extremists try following the letter of their law and or screwball interpretations and that does kill and oppress. I would hate to live in Saudi Arabia, but I'd also hate to live in a household in America where the Christian man felt he needed to be head of household with a submissive wife and children that should be seen and not heard. I don't say you are that way, but there are people that live like that right here and according to their interpretation of their religion.
I've met some wonderful Islamic people and obviously not all are extremist. If I took verses from the bible to back up a claim about religion, like some people quote the Koran, I could argue that Christianity is oppressive, racist, incestuous and more. I don't choose to be anti Islamic or anti Christian but I am anti cult and extremist of religions resulting in oppression of people.
