By that same reasoning, God also gave the land to the other descendants of Abraham, the Arabs. Looking at the history and nature of God's dealings with Israel, it is only logical that he took away their "brithright" starting some 2000 years ago, due to their rejection of the Messiah. It's easy enough to derive whatever meaning you want from the bible. I draw no conclusions from reading it that Israel is the birthright of the Jews today and that they are entitled to deprive Palestinians who have been there for thousands of years their rights.
