Fear tactics are all the Republican Party has left to deal with and try to discredit Obama. They seem to backfire on them though.
The quotes you pull from the books is understandable and age appropriate for a youth from a bi-racial family. What doesn't make sense is your interpretation about his father because his father was black and his mother was white.
Also, he was extremely close to his white grandmother. Much of this writing is sensible process of searching for an identity as a young man who is not accepted by the society around him as either white or black, fully.
This is one reason I can see him as a healing force in American society because he understands predjudice from both sides and struggle that is part of history for black Americans.
If we all look at our youth and how we interpreted the world, and only a few sentences here and there were pulled out to supposedly represent who we are today, any number of pictures of our person could be concocted.
I think his understanding of other cultures, particularly Muslim, is great. He is, by religion, a Christian though. Fortunately a rational and intelligent one!
