I have often spoken with my spouse about this point. She was never spanked but gre up in a reactionary environment of control. She has struggled over every single decision. I, on theothr hand, have resorted to a little physical reminder but I have long dismissed it as innapropriate and useless.

In another long post to Lydia I comment how some people do believe in physical coertion to do good but, who sets the limits? The parents? That would be well if all parents knew where the line is to stop but many do not. I am afraid that whole societies are being created with the belief that physical punishment is not only good but that it is the only way to achieve certain results. Based on some comments I have read, I am sure some otherwise nice people would go along with physical punishment as a way to create a better society.
