I posted below saying that it is impossible not to have had INDIRECT participation but it was a sin of omission in all cases of those who were DIRECT perpetrators.

Your questions are very difficult to answer for the vast majority because self-protection runs deep. The only type of people who may have never been exposed to The Family's doctrines are those who were always in the fringes and never fully trusted as insiders, thus never aware of all the inside doctrines.

Was your relative one of these? If so, chances are he/she is telling the truth. However, staying as a fringe member for 20 years doesn't ring true.

Your second question is even more difficult. Some people left because they were "kicked-out", in which case they have not shed their adopted doctrines and way of life - including the so-called "deceivers, yet true" doctrine that allows them to lie and pretend they are something they are not.

In fact, I would caution that you observe very closely this relative of yours to see if in fact there is no fly in your honey-jar and other apples in your barrel may be getting spoiled.

The escape from the evil doctrines of The Family takes a lot of internal work. The individual must seek out the truth, and that requires a lot of fasting and prayer, it requires love for the truth, and that’s a very personal thing you have no ways of influencing. Some people don’t care about the truth.

I wish you and your relative healing, peace and the truth, which are all gifts of God.
