Thank you for your thoughtful message. I agree with most of what you wrote. My point about the high failure rates of condoms is that many advocacy groups suppress this fact. They come out of the woodwork when Congress is discussing funding for abstinence education programs. Their mantra is "use a condom and you will be having safe sex." These groups have lobbied not only to not increase abstinence education, but have even pushed for funding to be reduced. It is a turff war, and the victims of AIDS and other deadlySTDs continue to die.

My question is, why aren't these groups promoting the most effective method for avoiding STDs? Why do they suppress the fact that the transmission of many STDs can not be stopped by condoms?

I'm not saying that condoms are useless. I'm just trying to point out that they have serious flaws that are being ignored by some advocacy groups.
