When the best don't vote, the worst get elected

I once debated with a guy who was a deacon in the Jehovah's Witnesses. This cult has a doctrine which forbids members to vote, serve in public office, or serve as a juror.

I stumped him with the following question:

If everybody who you consider to be the followers of Jehovah and all moral people decided to no longer vote for any candidate or voter initiative, and only the people you consider wicked and immoral voted, would our society be better off or worse off?

He had no answer, which is a rare moment for these well-indoctrinated culties.

I've lived in countries where people don't have the right to vote and long for that right. How sad that a high percentage of eligible U.S. citizens don't even bother to vote, (much less become educated voters). We take our freedoms for granted.

I consider voting not only a right and privilege, but a civic and moral duty. By voting for what I consider to be honest politicians and just laws, I am obeying Christ's admonition to be the salt of the earth.
