Oh one of the sadest posts on movingonorg I ever read was by verylonelygirl or such handle...she got abused by her (step...real???)father and the mother looking on???!!...that was devastating to read it...sad to say the post later seemed to be gone...because I had checked several times later and couldn't find it.
