So true, and it goes on all over the world. I was raised in a household all my life full of tears and weeping over lost and murdered children, families, relatives, a whole land and peoples lost to a conquerer. Yet there are tales of heroic uprisings where and when it was necessary. Sometimes it is necessary, but sometimes you have to accept your fate. At one time history was confusing to me, now it is fascinating. When I read how Armenian mothers threw themselves over cliffs with babes in arms, hanging on to their rifles which they had been using for protection in a last ditch stand to defend themselves from the marauding armies, in order not to be captured and their children used as indentured servants, I think what courage these women must have had, what easy times we have in comparison to them and what it takes to be able to live in the freedom that we have today so we do not have to defend our homelands in this way. I think the last 40 years or so have spoiled us and we think everything should come so easy and without any sacrifice. Oh, how I wish that were true, but history does not show this.
