For one thing it was the old prophet that lied to the young prophet, claiming he had heard from an angel!
1Ki 13:18 He said unto him, I [am] a prophet also as thou [art]; and an angel spake unto me by the word of the LORD, saying, Bring him back with thee into thine house, that he may eat bread and drink water. [But] he lied unto him.
The young prophet had obeyed God, but listen to the lies of this old man, and died because of it.
1Ki 13:23 And it came to pass, after he had eaten bread, and after he had drunk, that he saddled for him the ass, [to wit], for the prophet whom he had brought back.
1Ki 13:24 And when he was gone, a lion met him by the way, and slew him: and his carcase was cast in the way, and the ass stood by it, the lion also stood by the carcase.
(unless you mean some other story that I don't know about.)
So in this sense the story does not back up your application that God somehow had his will through deception.
If good came out of our time in the Family then glory to God, it certainly wasn't because our hearing was so good, or that Berg was in tune. It was like Jonah saving the men in the ship by being thrown over. It was never God's will for him to go in the first place!
