Isn't that an American export too? The Children of God was borne on the wings of the Hippy movement. The songs we sang were more American than anything else. The image of "Berg as Hugh Hefner" surrounded by sexual women was also American. The way we used "LOVE" -- the single most ambiguous word in the English language, was more American and hippified than anything else.
The evangelism and revivalist cause was distinctly American. You could even say the confrontational and in-your-face "I'm a better Christian than you" attitude was American.
Berg's recommended menu was as typically Amercian, and American diets and preferences were often pushed on the locals in the homes wherever TF went.
Let's not forget how the leadership was by default American. They were the eldest, the ones who always knew best. Even when they weren't that senior they were perceived as the ones who grasped revolutionary concepts best and would inevitably end up leading the "nationals." Next in line would be the Europeans. No matter how TF pretended they wanted to "Nationalize" they never truly handed over power to the locals.
