The movie is Bombay! Which is where I went in India, btw.
I absolutely loved the ocean-cliff-castle-wind production of Uyire Uyire where the couple are singing in separate places on the same set and finally meet face-to-face. I'm not real crazy about the soprano's handling of the material...her tremlo sounds a little too much Minnie Mouse on steroids...but the tenor's performance is commanding, and the composition is very powerful--including the woodwind instrumentation.
I just realized that AR Rahman is the composer for the Bombay scores, and I'm a fan of his through my exposure to world music.
