Thanks a lot for the feedback CB...love the thread...& I realise, you're contributing stuff, I get to know of only now...thanks!!...I have the same problem than you with the female Mickey Mouse voice (inhaling Helium or sorts ; ) )...it's an ageold "weakness" of Hindi-movies...I wonder, what makes them pitch the female part so "high"...I guess, if I want to hear the wonders of Soprano voices, I listen to Netrebko & the like...but frankly, I lack patience & more for that...I included a link "down under" where the female part is much, much more enjoyable, of singer Sunidhi Chauhan (in Fanaa)....I also have a problem with the wrist-cutting...it's too obvious, explicit for my liking

I didn't know that angle of Rahman...that he was composing to Rap-sound so to speak...it's adapted/moderate though, cause frankly I have a problem with Rap & Punk, simply cause I think the artist could just write a poem & read it ; ) ...those few chords I can muster up myself, but I admire deep skills....though I am totally aware that Rahman is sort of an acknowledged genius

Well, I am far from being a patriot...on the contrary...so I am also not gangho for India...although I have a deep "burden"/love/liking for much of India & I don't even know, where that stems from...sure is, once I thought, that I'd find some solutions there (in my teenage-years) but I know, salvation comes from the Jews (Jesus)....if I get some time, I might add a few more links & stuff, showing some amazing similarities between Jewish & Hindi customs...India is the country, where the Jews were hardly harrassed in all those centuries, if at all...speaks volumes...
Interesting, how they make in many movies a simple or a deep comment about God...either in the songs or in the dialogues....something totally "unheard of" in German movies...nowadays at least...they are so secular, it makes me vomit....
That would be a total new thread...religion of India...it's "polytheism"...only recently I read a smart German guy commenting at Spiegel online, that Judaism & Christianity is far from being monotheistic...something I argued since decades, literally...there is no other God besides or above God the father...but people don't read the psalms or what Jesus said etc...what is beneath

JaNa GaNa MaNa - (translation)

O! Dispenser of India's destiny, thou art the ruler of the minds of all people...

Thy name rouses the hearts of Punjab, Sindh, Gujarat, the Maratha country,
in the Dravida country, Utkala and Bengal;

It echoes in the hills of the Vindhyas and Himalayas,

It mingles in the rhapsodies of the pure waters of Yamuna and the Ganges.

They chant only thy name.

They seek only thy auspicious blessings.

They sing only the glory of thy victory.

The salvation of all people waits in thy hands,

O! Dispenser of India's destiny, thou art the ruler of the minds of all people...

Victory to thee, Victory to thee,
Victory, Victory, Victory, Victory to thee!

Here is a female voice you might like...the plot is blind young girl from Kashmere falls in love with a terrorist...the first song is also in praise about the colourfulness of India etc....I like the arrangement:

Fanaa - Des Rangila

Quite a lovesong...plus actress Kajol kisses the main male actor...not so usual in the movies, also they have sex before they get married! & therewith have a boy, which shows in the last song...otherwise quite a cineastic feast for the eye...singing in the rain...I think moderate monsoonrain is lovely,.... have a problem though with Aamir Khans necklace, I am sensitive about stuff like that...

Fanaa Dekho Na

Fanaa Mere Haath mein

The following is quite a nice/easy/light movie, plot is: three guys are a bit bored about their lovely wifes (another weakness of Hindi-movies, who would really be bored with such beauties??) & seek some extramarital affair, but learn, that that doesn't pay...it's all in a humourous, funny way, but the song is quite a gem, where the woman/wives are the real beauties inwardly and outwardly,...and finally the men realise that

Another thing I zero in in Hindi movies is: are the morals of the movies forming the people or only reflecting their morals....

Dil De Diya Hai - Masti

Hindi Lyrics Translation
Dil De Diya Hai
Here is the song 'Dil De Diya Hai' from movie 'Masti'.
Movie : Masti
Song : Dil De Diya

Dil de diya hai, jaan tumhe denge
I have given you my heart, I will give you my life

Ho, dil de diya hai, jaan tumhe denge
Oh I have given you my heart, I will give you my life

Daga nahin karenge sanam
I will not betray you, darling

Dil de diya hai, jaan tumhe denge
I have given you my heart, I will give you my life

Daga nahin karenge sanam
I will not betray you, darling

Ho, rab di kasam yaara rab di kasam
With God's vow, dear, with God's vow

(Dil de diya hai, jaan tumhe denge
I have given you my heart, I will give you my life

Daga nahin karenge sanam) - 2
I will not betray you, darling

(Rukh zindagi ne mod liya kaisa
How life has turned its face

Humne socha nahin tha kabhi aisa) - 2
I never thought anything like that (would happen)

Aata nahin yakeen kya se kya ho gaya
I can't conclude what has happened

Kis tarha main tumse bevafa ho gaya
How did I become unfaithful to you

Insaaf kar do, mujhe maaf kar do
Judge me, forgive me

Itna hi kar do karam
Do just that much of a favor for me

Dil de diya hai, jaan tumhe denge
I have given you my heart, I will give you my life

Daga nahin karenge sanam
I will not betray you, darling

(Aawaargi mein ban gaya deewaana
In waywardness I became mad

Maine kyoon saadgi ko nahin jaana) - 2
Why didn't I understand simplicity (appreciate our relationship - "simple life")

Chaahat yahi hai ke is kadar pyaar doon
My desire is this, that I give you such love

Kadmon mein tere main do jahaan waar doon
That I surrender both worlds upon your footsteps

Chain mera le lo, khushi meri le lo
Take away my peace, take my happiness

De do mujhe de do saare gham
Give to me all your pain

Dil de diya hai, jaan tumhe denge
I have given you my heart, I will give you my life

Daga nahin karenge sanam
I will not betray you, darling

(Mere ashq keh rahe meri kahaani
My tears are telling my story

Inhe samjho na tum sirf paani) - 2
Don't think them to be only water

Ro roke aansuon ke daag dhool jaayenge
Crying, the mark of my tears will wash away

In mein vafa ke rang aaj ghul jaayenge
In them, the color of fidelity will be absorbed today

Paas tum rahogi, bhool ab na hogi
If you stay close, no mistakes will happen now

Karoonga na tum pe sitam
I will not do you any injustice

Dil de diya hai, jaan tumhe denge
I have given you my heart, I will give you my life

Daga nahin karenge sanam
I will not betray you, darling

Ho, rab di kasam yaara rab di kasam
With God's vow, dear, with God's vow

(Dil de diya hai, jaan tumhe denge
I have given you my heart, I will give you my life

Daga nahin karenge sanam) - 2
I will not betray you, darling

CB, I think you know plenty German...don't you?...here is a rating list for Hindi-movies...by clicking on the title you learn more about them...however it serves me quickly , to know from ebay-offers, whether an offer might be a catch...however, I don't always agree with the rating...also it depends on the price...sometimes the songs are the best, sometimes the story or parts & seldom all of it
Also the guy...in Switzerland.. has a tremendous knowledge, which hindi movies are good or terrible remakes of Bollywood originals...I wouldn't even know, except for some basic knowledge...may be it seres you:
