When people talk about ESP alerting them to other people in danger (and you see this in TV documentaries from time to time) it's generally a mother being alerted to a child's danger. Such was the case with my own mother. I think that may be a special sense given to mothers or parents, and generally would be a gift given across the board to Christians or non-Christians. Not to everyone, but without discriminating on the basis of faith or lack of it.
You said yourself said that you didn't get this kind of "family-warning-system" but that you were prompted to pray for others, and it turned out to be accurate and a genuine need. So I think in your case you were prompted by the Holy Spirit. Not that you're not a spiritual person (I believe you certainly are), only that if some people have a residual spiritual gift like a "warning system" especially re: close family members, that you don't necessarily have that gift. Meaning that YOUR promptings were supernatural interventions, as opposed to a spiritual gift in normal operation. Thanks for sharing that. I think you helped clarify issues in my mind.
