I know it's not funny, but I can't stop laughing at your accurate description.
I think logic helped me out as when I read that the family doesn't believe in the Virgin Mary(meaning that she wasn't a virgin) I thought hang on, we don't say she's not a virgin. But then I remembered the letter where Berg said it was an angel or even worse God having intercourse, then he mentioned it could have been the HS(which would have been really difficult seeing that he thought the HS was a woman) I realised well if she made love to anyone, then poof she is not a virgin anymore. Even if with a God, it's still a breech in the promise.
But in the family it's hard to take time to critically think through any of these things. You are taught "it's not important, just go out witnessing, put everything on the back burner."
Witnessing what is the problem here.
