Those in the Family who are genuinely Christians are deceived on the issue of the Family's doctrines. On the issue of being afraid or ashamed to leave the Family, I was there once too. I didn't lose my salvation over it. I just had to overcome my fear that leaving the Family was leaving God and making Jesus want to puke. I had to overcome my false belief that God wanted me to stay in the Family.
My motives were all mixed up togehter. I didn't want to fail God and the day I realized clearly that I could leave the Family and not make God want to kill me, was the day I was on my way out. Motives to stay in are mixed. It's not all fear of Bergie's Gods' wrath, and shame of being called a backslider by those whom I loved. People alsowant to please God and fear the lie that He will slay or curse them and their children for leaving.
