I've never been in The Family either, but like you, I've been around members and ex-members for a long time (20+ yeard). My wife was a member until 1980.
The thing that bothers me is that most of the members are NOT adults. Most are children, and they don't have a choice.
Adults to do come in contact with The Family are not normally told the full story up front. Much of that comes later on. I mean, seriously, if they walked up to you on the street and said, "Hi, we are from the Family. We believe in wife swapping and getting fucked by Jesus", would most people join? Or walk very quickly in the other direction?
