Yes, Ashcroft, Bush, Cheney, Rummie and Wolfowitz and the other neo-cons who are oppressing other nations and turning America into an Orwellian state strike fear into my heart too. I am a Christian, but I hate just about everything those people stand for, and I certainly don't identify with them. Throw Tony Blair in there too. I hope they all die slow, painful, and very public political deaths.
As is the case with just about any ideology or theology, there are those who distort and pervert it.
