I think it best not to support them with money, but at the same time offer something like plane tickets back to the states and some support for resettling should they want to get out. The reason I say this is that you are not abandoning them, but you are denying their addiction, the Family. Eventually, when not supported, they may decide to leave. The Fam. is good about shearing their own missionaries and hanging them out to dry with little or no help. I think sending letters and cards and communicating are great. And maybe gifts on birthdays or holidays that are something they can personally enjoy. I am sure there will be many other opinions on this!
