strangely, i came to a similar state of mind as a young catholic. i figured that unless i got hit by a bus on my way out of confession there wasn't much chance i'd go to heaven, so what the hell.

as time went on tho, it was a sense of my own sinfulness, often resulting from unpleasant bouts of drug assisted self reflection, that drove me once again to seek a savior. that whole "saved a wretch like me" thing really fell into place.

but, in the fam., and in many religious systems, the good news somehow got twisted into bad news, and the freedom of a gracefilled life got swallowed up again in bondage.

some feel that adopting an "i'm ok, your ok" philosophy is the prescription to this. i find it impossible to look around , and within, and not to see the reality of sin.(we aren't talkin tequila and chocolate here..)i don't think myself, or the world around me are really ok. but when the real power of what happened on the cross, and the reality of what that does in my standing w/ God, and w/in my own soul, well, the pressure is off. its that amazing grace stuff that gets lost in works religion.
